Those that know me have heard me speak the praises of Kiva.org, an on-line organization that makes micro-loans throughout the world.  I'm still a fan and today I received (another) repayment of $3.33.  

Now in my world, today's tall latte cost me more than that.  But it is not about me, it is about the $25 that I loaned to Alphina, in Nandi Hills, Kenya, who along with 20 other lenders provided her with $500 to buy cereal crops and resell them.

Here is her story.

Alphina's story
Alphina is a farmer and salesperson, who has access to many sellers who are in the food crop-growing business. On her farm, she keeps cows and goats, and she has a small cash crop garden and trees.

To earn additional income, Alphina helps to arrange the logistics of getting farm produce from local farmers to their buyers. She earns a commission on the sales. She has been doing this business for over a decade. She continually makes an effort to build strong relationships, because reputation is everything in her line of work.

Alphina can arrange a sale more easily than regular farmers. She prefers to deal with larger volumes of produce. She is seeking a loan to buy cereal crops from local farmers at fair prices. She will use her better understanding of the market conditions and prices to sell the crops at a profit.

Your loan will help Alphina’s clients to focus on production rather than sales, and it will help her family to earn more commission income to uplift their livelihood. You can support her dream by giving Alphina a loan!
